Through retail, we got materialism. Through internet, we're losing materialism?
"We have evolved with an inner bias which gives us a high readiness to pay for tangible, scarce
things which we can hold and own outright — while we tend to undervalue those things which are
ethereal, abundant and enjoyed communally." - Rory Sutherland Original article (posted 23rd April 2011)
I don't usually post excerpts (now a new tag) of what I read randomly on the internet, (usually just single
sentences under my Quote of the Day tag) but I think I will starting from today. With the internet now in
abundance of most of our lives, I think there's a whole lot out there that just doesn't get seen to. Twitter helps,
yes. But I hardly post here lately, so why not (and there's no character limit!)!
So... Through retail, we got materialism. Through internet, we're losing materialism? Time will tell.
So ask yourself: Do you value your terabytes of MP3 files as much as your CD collection?
